This model represents a MiG-23ML of the 234th Guards Instructional Interceptor Aviation Regiment from the Kubinka Air Base, near Moscow, in 1978. The MiG-23 Flogger is a swing-wing fighter aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich bureau in the Soviet Union. It is considered to belong to the Soviet "Third Generation" aircraft category along with similar-aged Russian-produced fighters like the MiG-25 Foxbat. It was the first Soviet fighter with a look-down/shoot-down radar and beyond visual range missiles, and the first MiG production fighter plane to have intakes at the sides of the fuselage. Production started in 1970 and reached large numbers with over 5,000 aircraft built. Today the MiG-23 remains in limited service with various export customers.

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23ML Flogger-G

Designed as a heavier, more powerful improvement on the MiG-21 Fishbed, the MiG 23 first flew on June 10, 1967. This fighter/bomber had variable-sweep wings and could achieve speeds greater than Mach 2. It was the first Soviet aircraft capable of firing "beyond-visual-range" missiles, and the first to have look-down/shoot-down radar. As one of the most successful military aircraft built during the Cold War, MiG-23s were produced in large numbers, with more than 5,000 coming off of the production lines. Although retired from service in the former Soviet Union, many MiG-23s are still in service with various export customers.

Red Falcon's MiG 23 is a beautiful reproduction of one of the Soviet Union's top tactical fighters of the 1970s and 80s. This model's most remarkable feature is swing wings that sweep in unison and can be configured in a variety of positions. For ground display, the metal landing gear installs securely and the lower ventral fin can be placed in the up position. Fine details include a sturdy metal antenna mounted behind an opening canopy, a machined metal pitot tube and several air data sensors. A variety of removable weapon ordnance is included, and the model itself locks securely into a rotating, pad-printed metal display stand.
