Arado Ar 234B Blitz | | 3.5" | | 3.75" | Designed to meet a German Air Ministry requirement for a high-speed reconnaissance aircraft, the Ar 234 was first flown on June 15th, 1943. This modest looking aircraft held an impressive number of firsts: it was the first four-engined jet aircraft to fly, the first jet aircraft to be used for a reconnaissance mission, and, later, the first operational jet powered bomber. Like the Me 262, the Ar 234 Blitz was miscast in its general role-it was used almost exclusively as a reconnaissance aircraft, which was fortunate for the Allies, since in its few missions as a bomber it proved very difficult to intercept. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
