De Agostini WWII Bombers DAWB04

RAF No.199 Sqn, LJ525 Jolly Roger, RAF North Creake, England, 1944

1:144 Scale   Length   Width
Short Stirling B.Mk III   7.25"   8.25"

In May 1944 No.199 Squadron was moved to No. 100 (Radio Countermeasures) Group with tasking to perform radar jamming operations during the D-Day landings. The squadron aircraft also joined the heavy bomber raids over Germany but was equipped with advanced radar jamming equipment to disrupt the German air defences. The Mandrel electronic jamming device was carried to counter the German Freya early warning radar, and tin-foil Window strips were dropped to confuse Wurzburg fighter ground control and night fighter AI radar.

Short Stirling B.Mk III

Designed to meet a British Air Ministry specification for a heavy bomber, the Stirling was first flown on May 14th, 1939.
