The Douglas DC-6 with serial number 45497/995 was completed on 13 June 1958 and delivered to its first owner Maritime Central Airways as CF-MCK. MCA was located in Moncton, New Brunswick, in eastern Canada and the aircraft only accumulated 200 hours before being sold to Eagle Aviation Ltd in January 1959 and registered as G-APSA. Later Eagle Airways became British Eagle International Airlines. In late 1964 G-ASPA was traded to Saudi Arabian Airlines and registered as HZ-ADA. In 1971 the aircraft was given to Yemenia Airlines based in Sana'a and now registered as 4W-ABQ. In 1987 the aircraft was sold to Instone Airlines where it was overhauled. The aircraft was leased almost exclusively by Air Atlantic and finally purchased by them.
Designed to meet a USAAF requirement for a larger-capacity transport than the C-54 (DC-4), the Douglas DC-6 was first flown on June 29th, 1946. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
