AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant   10.75"   10.25"

The CH-149 Cormorant is currently the Canadian Air Force's only dedicated search-and-rescue helicopter. The first two aircraft arrived in Canada in September 2001 and entered service the following year. In August 2010, the Canadian Forces fleet of 14 CH-149 Cormorants passed 40,000 operational hours. The fleet had a higher flying rate than any other AW101 fleet and Cormorant #149901, currently stationed at Canadian Forces Base Comox with 442 Squadron, has the highest number of airframe hours on any of the AW101s anywhere in the world.

AgustaWestland CH-149 Cormorant

Desgined to meet a Canadian requirement for a replacement for the CH-113 Labrador, the CH-149 is a search-and-rescue variant of the AgustaWestland AW101 (originally the European Helicopter Industries EH-101) that was first flown on October 9th, 1987. The design makes extensive use of composite materials and cutting-edge technologies including active vibration control and high-efficiency paddle-tipped rotor blades. The three-engine configuration and and long-range capability make the rugged CH-149 ideally suited to Canada's geography and climate. A large cargo space with rear loading ramp combined with a full ice protection system enables the machine to conduct a wide range of operations.
