Sikorsky H-3 Sea King Diecast Model
FAA 814 NAS, Cornwall, England, Tiger Meet 1999

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Sikorsky H-3 Sea King   12.25"   10.25"

Having a “tiger” in its badge, the No. 814 Sq. is a member of the elite “Tiger Squadron Association” and decorated this Sea King HAS.6 in an attractive tiger scheme for participation in the 1997 NATO Tiger Meet at RAF Fairford, Glos., during the Royal International Air Tattoo.

Sikorsky H-3 Sea King

Designed for the US Navy as an anti-submarine hunter/killer, the Sea King was first flown on March 11th, 1959. The Sikorsky SH-3 is used as both a combat and medevac/transport aircraft. In its transport role, it can shuttle more than 20 wounded or 28 combat-ready personnel. The SH-3 is also noted in its role as Marine One—the transport helicopter for the President of the United States—and in the recovery of the Apollo 14 crew. The SH-3’s sonar (MAD), sonobuoys and fleet-wide linkup help provide protection from enemy submarines by making critical readings available to the entire fleet.

Corgi’s 1:72 scale Sea Kings are quite large, with each release featuring a variety of transparent window configurations on the port side. These models feel surprisingly heavy for 1:72 scale. Two sets of rotor blades are included, one with dropping blades for ground display and another with blades that are curved upwards for in-flight display. The “green-house” canopy with a variety of tinting is large, allowing for easy viewing of the cockpit interior and crew figures. Each release highlights one of many intake configurations and radar dooms. The sliding cargo door opens effortlessly to expose an expansive cargo-hold.
