German Infantry, D-Day, June 6th 1944 6-Piece Set

The infantry division was the backbone of the German army. By 1943, the huge losses on the Eastern Front forced the Whermact to withdraw many of its battered formations to France for training and r e-organization. By the fall of that year, it became obvious that some of these units must remain for the defense of France against the imminent Allied invasion. The quality of the men in these divisions ranged from the seasoned veterans to young conscripts, but they fought the Allied invaders skillfully and fiercely. Hitler's refusal to allow a steady withdrawal led to huge casualties and a retreat to the borders of Germany herself. The last major German offensive in the West – The Battle of the Bulge ended in failure and used up the remaining forces, causing the Germans to return to the Rhine, and nearly collapse.

These figures are made to go with the existing range of World War II Corgi vehicles.
