Corgi Forward March US59110
US Army, "Give Em More Firepower", Recruiting Poster
Re- creating a scene from D-Day, June 6th 1944 (although the drop took place under the cover of darkness), troops literally hit the ground firing in this recruiting poster for the US Army Airborne divisions. The soldier in the foreground has started to engage the enemy with his .45 caliber M1 Thompson sub-machine gun, which was a pooled weapon at battalion level. His buddy is still grappling with his T-5 parachute, which needed to be discarded as quickly as possible once he hit the ground. Typically, airborne troops jumped with equipment weighing more than 30 pounds strapped to their person when on combat operations.
The military recruiting poster has been a vital part of recruiting for centuries. In the 20th Century the posters became more colorful and even collectible. FORWARD MARCH pays tribute to the artists and recruits themselves with the introduction of this new collection based on famous recruiting posters. Each set includes a figure based on the poster and a 3- x 5-inch full-color reproduction of the poster to display next to the figures. The four branches of the U.S. military are introduced in this inaugural series - the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Air Corps (the precursor to the U.S. Air Force in World War II). Each figure is taken right from the poster art, reproduced in striking detail and hand-painted with an eye toward realism and historical accuracy - while still remaining faithful to the look of the original poster art.
The Corgi "Forward March" range presents highly-detailed, ready-made spin-cast figures in 1:32 (54mm) and 1:50 (36mm) scale. Over the last 50 years Corgi has earned a reputation as one of the finest producers of highly detailed, die-cast, historically accurate vehicle and aircraft models. These same values and principles have now been applied to a brand new range of hand-painted, spin-cast metal miniature figurines - the FORWARD MARCH collection. Our same commitment to quality and authenticity shines through in every figure - from aviators to World War II infantry and elite forces, these figures capture the essence of the period down to the buttons on the tunics and the look of confidence and resignation in their detailed faces! Many of these figures are the perfect compliment to existing Corgi military and aviation collections - what better way to bring additional life to your existing collection than by creating your own custom-made vignette with vehicles and figures.
