It was important for the German 352nd Infantry Division to hold Vierville and the draw that led up to it from the beaches. Once through the bluffs, the U.S. forces could begin to fan out and flank German positions along the beaches. After intense Allied air and sea bombardment, the unprotected German units behind the beachheads were ready to surrender.
Inspired by some of the most evocative and iconographic events of World War II, this series captures a snapshot in time using highly detailed and historically accurate diecast models, spin-cast metal figures and cold-cast diorama bases. The scene that is created is so strikingly realistic, it's as is you were looking at a photograph of the event. Combine two sets to create an expanded scene.
The Sd.Kfz. 7 was a half-track military vehicle used by the German Luftwaffe and SS during the Second World War and first appeared in 1938. Used mainly as the tractor for the 8.8 cm FlaK gun and 150 mm howitzer the Sd.Kfz. 7's running gear consisted of two front wheels with hydro-pneumatic tires for steering and rear tracks with seven road wheels overlapping on each side of the vehicle. The vehicle could carry gun crews of up to 12 men in theatre-type seats and tow loads over 17,000 lbs in weight, and because of its heavy power it was often useful as a recovery vehicle. © Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
