| McDonnell Douglas F/A-18B Hornet | | 9.25" | | 6.25" | Designed by Northrop as a smaller, naval derivative of the USAF’s YF-17 Air Combat Fighter prototype, the F/A-18 was first flown in November, 1978. The "Hornet" is a multi-mission, supersonic, twin engine, all-weather fighter and attack aircraft. It can operate from aircraft carriers or land bases and converts efficiently from fighter to strike mode. During Operation Desert Storm, the Hornet proved that a single aircraft on a single mission could serve as both a fighter and a bomber. The U.S. Navy's Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron flies the F/A-18, which also comprises the aviation strike force for many foreign countries.© Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Dragon’s "legacy" F/A-18 series includes the single-seat C model and the two-seat B model. Constructed with very little plastic, this model features snug-fitting, all-metal landing gear, which installs quickly and easily for ground display. The pad printed fuel tanks and weapons ordinance are easy to install. The carefully applied paint schemes bring out the subtleties of the panel lines, rivets and control surface detail. The speed brake is easily configured for display in the deployed position and can be fixed in place with a nicely detailed actuator arm. Additional features such as all-metal rotating elevators and subtle airbrushed exhaust nozzles provide a finishing touch. © Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
