This ultra detailed model features the Space Shuttle Columbia. It can be displayed with the cargo bay doors either open or closed. When the cargo bay doors are open, the interior of the shuttle bay and payload are visible! This model also includes a round diorama base with the earth as a background.
Columbia, the most authoritative and symbolic name in the human space exploration history, was the oldest orbiter in the US Shuttle fleet. In 1981, the spaceship realized the human's first attempt to fly into Earth orbit, after which an important foundation had been set for other upcoming space missions. Since its first flight in 1981, the Columbia had completed 27 space missions before it and its crew were lost during the re-entry of its 28th mission.
