The Apollo 11 mission was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It was the fifth human spaceflight of Project Apollo and the third human voyage to the Moon. Launched on July 16, 1969, it carried Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, while Collins orbited above.
Designed for the Apollo program at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the Saturn V was first launched on November 9th, 1967. After two unmanned flight trials the Saturn V launched astronauts into lunar orbit in 1968, then in 1969 powered the first manned moon landing. The Saturn V's huge size and payload capacity dwarfed all other previously successful rockets. The Saturn V stood 363 feet tall and without fins was 33 feet in diameter with a payload capacity of 260,000 pounds. Its five powerful engines successfully pushed its 6.5 million pounds beyond the earth’s atmosphere. © Copyright 2003-2009 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Dragon’s 1:400 scale Saturn V Rocket masterfully recreates this powerful rocket’s multistage assembly. Each of the three stages is constructed of diecast metal and can be displayed separately or together as a fully assembled and launch-ready spacecraft. Once removed from the assembly, each stage reveals beautifully replicated rocket engine nozzles with details of the internal fuel pressure vessel clearly visible inside the casing. The service module is easily removable from the third stage and can be configured with the Launch Escape System or fitted with the command module.
