Dragon Models 1:72 Armor Collector Series 60225
Krupp Sd.Kfz.162 Jagdpanzer IV Display Model
German Army PzJgAbt 228 PzDiv 116 , Normandy, France, 1944, (IV L/48) w/Armored Side Skirts

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Krupp Sd.Kfz.162 Jagdpanzer IV   3.75"   1.75"

This model features an L/48 from Pz.Jg.Abt.228, serving in the 116 "Greyhound" Panzer Division. It is exquisitely finished in the correct unit markings and a wavy green camouflage scheme over the base sand color, as it would have appeared in Normandy 1944. Another interesting aspect of this detailed model is the armored side skirts affixed to the hull sides. The first prototype of the Jagdpanzer IV was presented to the German Fuehrer in October 1943, with production eventually commencing in January 1944. Based on the chassis, running gear and drive train of the Panzer IV, this specialist "tank hunter" was low-slung and had well-sloped armor. The vertical hull front of the Pz.Kpfw. IV was replaced by two angled plates that provided a sharp nose. The early production model mounted a 7.5cm PaK39 L/48 gun.

Krupp Sd.Kfz.162 Jagdpanzer IV

The Jagdpanzer IV's development began in just after the battle of Stalingrad when the Whermacht Arms Bureau asked for a new standard tank hunter that had more armour and was lower profile than the StuG III. The Jagdpanzer IV first went into service in 1943 and served in the battle of the Bulge, Normandy and on the eastern front. The first production variant of the Jagdpanzer IV had 100mm of frontal armour and 40-50mm on the sides. The Jagdpanzer IV was first armed with the 75mm Pak 39 L/48 main gun, the same gun used on the StuG III, Panzer IV and many others. The later version mounted the 75mm Pak 42 L/70, which some believed was more powerful than the 88mm anti-aircraft gun.

Dragon's 1:72 scale Jagdpanzer IV is constructed almost entirely from plastic, which allows for the greatest possible detail. This model is beautifully recreated, with periscope binoculars rising through the fixed-open hatch, separately-applied armor plates on either side of the engine deck, an elevating 75mm cannon, separately-attached spare track and road wheels and an array of hand-painted tools such as a shovel, hatchet and track repair equipment with simulated attachment bands. Maintenance hatches, leaf-spring suspension and rivets can be clearly seen on the underside. Some releases in this series include side-mounted armor plates over the vehicle's tracks and a delicate antenna.
