The Sd. Kfz. 251 halftrack was a highly successful design, with a bewildering array of variants produced during WWII. The 251/10, for example, was a halftrack equipped with a 3.7cm PaK 36 antitank gun. This small-caliber weapon designed by Rheinmetall first appeared in 1936, but by the time WWII broke out it was outdated and ineffective against more heavily armored enemy tanks. Thus, a number of these “door knockers” (as the gun was sometimes nicknamed by German troops) were mounted on the hull superstructure of some German halftracks to provide light and mobile anti-armor support. This impressive Sd.Kfz.251/10 Ausf.D has a fully detailed PaK 36 carefully fitted with its low-profile shield onto the halftrack. The open-topped model has a full interior, while externally it is painted in a camouflage scheme and bears tactical markings of the Pz.Gren.Rgt.9 "Germania" 5.Pz.Div. "Wiking" whilst fighing in Poland 1944. The chassis has been made in die-cast metal to give it a pleasing weight and robustness. Weathering has been carefully applied to such components as the body, wheel and etc. This finely detailed model with 3.7cm PaK will add extra firepower to any model collection! In 1911, the French engineer Adolphe Kégresse converted a number of cars to half-tracks for the Tsar of Russia. The Kégresse track design standardized in 1940 and was widely used for armored personnel carriers, mortar carriers, anti-aircraft guns, anti-tank guns, artillery tractors and armored fighting vehicles, especially by the Germans and Americans. Regular wheels on the front and caterpillar tracks on the back gave this vehicle the cross-country capabilities of a tank and the handling of a wheeled vehicle. The rear compartment of each model was encapsulated with face-hardened armor plate, which provided little protection above the level of the rifleman's individual weapon.© Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Dragon's 1:72 scale Sd.Kfz.251/7 Half-Track series includes the "C" and the final production "D" variants. The vehicle's open crew compartment provides a clear view of a fully rendered fighting compartment. The driver's controls and instrumentation are wonderfully detailed, with simulated wood plank benches stocked with rifles behind in the rear compartment. Each release captures the variety of forward mounted weapons, and some feature twin bridge sections atop the hull. The rear machine gun is mounted to a rotating anti-aircraft mount. The highly detailed front wheel steering linkages and track systems are mounted to a detailed diecast metal chassis to give the model a pleasing weight and robustness. © Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
