Dragon Models 1:72 Armor Collector Series 60315
M4A3 Sherman Display Model
US Army 713th Tank Btn, Okinawa, Japan, 1945

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
M4A3 Sherman   3.25"   1.5"

The Sherman M4A3, fitted with a 500hp V8 petrol engine, was the fifth production type of the famous Sherman tank. It was the most favored version of the U.S. Army, with 4761 tanks eventually built. Dragon Armor has released an exciting new M4A3 model, and to make it more appealing it has a number of unique features. It is fitted with a 105mm gun rather than the usual 75mm gun, which allowed it to be used for close support. The suspension system features an HVSS setup, which was tougher than the original VVSS system.

This 1/72 model portrays a tank of the 713th Tank Battalion fighting in Okinawa in 1945. The Battle of Okinawa was fierce, with the U.S. suffering twice the number of casualties it received at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal combined. A total of 66,000 Japanese defenders were killed, and only 7000 were captured. With its 105mm howitzer, this tank was ideal for blasting away at enemy strong points and fortifications. To make the tank less of a target, the Allied star markings on the turret and hull have been smeared with mud, a characteristic that is replicated on this model. Detail on the HVSS system is finely produced, and the overall build and painting quality of this collector's piece as high as that produced by veteran model makers. This is a fine model representing the brutal fighting to occupy Okinawa, and will be welcomed by Sherman fans.

M4A3 Sherman

The pilot model of the M4 was completed in September 1941, and the Sherman became the most widely produced tank of the war. The M4 Sherman defeated heavier tanks with superior numbers, and by using outflanking tactics to strike thinner enemy flank armor. Shermans also achieved success with progressively upgunned models and by working with tank destroyers. The Sherman tank--named by the British--was fast, maneuverable, mechanically reliable, easy to manufacture, and effective in its infantry support role. It served with the US Army and Marines during World War II, and the US transferred large numbers to the United Kingdom and allied forces of many countries.

Dragon's 1:72 scale M4 Sherman is constructed almost entirely of diecast plastic, which provides for the greatest possible level of detailing. Featuring a 360-degree rotating turret with elevating cannon, this model has hatches, hinges, welded amour plating and a turret that are all stunningly accurate, and the same level of detailing has been applied to the vehicle's track system. The model's underside features forward crew escape hatch, engine compartment access panels and wheel suspension components. Additional detailing includes delicate guards that shield both head lamps and textured lenses and tail lights. Subtle airbrushed weathering with hand-painted tools and equipment add a finishing touch.
