Dragon Models 1:35 Armor 61015
MAN Sd.Kfz.171 Panther Display Model
German Army 9.PzDiv Hohenstaufen, #432, Normandy, France, 1944, w/Figure

1:35 Scale   Length   Width
MAN Sd.Kfz.171 Panther   8"   4"

To counter the ascendancy of the Russian T-34 tank, the German Panther first appeared on the battlefield in July 1943 at the Battle of Kursk. The Panther offered a fine combination of mobility, protection and firepower, and by the war's end it was Germany's third most produced German armored fighting vehicle. The most common (and final) variant produced was the Ausf.G, which featured thicker armor and a redesigned hull.

Dragon Armor's newest large-scale release is a Late Production variant of the Panther G dressed in markings of 9. Panzerdivision "Hohenstaufen". The unit name Hohenstaufen referred to a famous line of German rulers in the 12th and 13th centuries. This division was based in France at the time of the Allied landings in Normandy in June 1944. After arriving in the area in late June after suffering repeated air attacks, it was engaged in fierce battles around Caen. After a fighting withdrawal, it was able to escape the Falaise pocket, and it proceeded to retreat through France and Belgium. This new 1/35 scale tank is the first Dragon Armor Panther G bearing a coating of Zimmerit, a feature that has been accurately replicated in miniature. Painted in a three-color camouflage scheme, the model also wears large tactical numbers on the turret sides. This fine fully assembled model features an accompanying of a pre-painted 1/35 Geman figure. Taken from a pool of available figures, the figure varies from model to model in random selection.

MAN Sd.Kfz.171 Panther

Designed to replace to the PzKpfw IV, which had met its match in the new Soviet T-34, the Panzerkampfwagen V "Panther" series of heavy tanks were armed with powerful weapons and equally powerful armor protection. Thought by many to be the best German tank of WWII, the Panther featured a sloped armored turret with a long barrel 75mm main gun and an anti-aircraft 7.92mm machine gun. It was equipped with anti-magnetic paste to combat magnetic mines, and armor skirts offered further protection for the track system and crew. Approximately 5,500 Panthers were built during WWII.

Dragon's 1:35 scale Panther "G" tanks live up to the extremely high standards set by Dragon's previous 1:35 scale releases. These models are constructed almost entirely of diecast plastic, which allows for the finest possible detail. Each model has a rotating turret with elevating cannon, a moveable forward machine gun, road wheel suspension, hull maintenance access covers, pivoting barrel support and opening commander's hatch. Individually applied battlefield equipment and tools are correctly stowed on the hull. The series includes early variants as well as late production models with altered engine deck layout, raised fan cover, new exhaust arrangement and a new mantlet design.
