The 58th Fighter Squadron is one of two combat flying squadrons in the 33d Fighter Wing Operations Group, 33d Fighter Wing.
The mission of the 58th Fighter Squadron is to prepare and maintain a 24 Primary Assigned Aircraft (PAA) combat-coded F-15C squadron for worldwide deployment and air combat operations. The squadron originally transitionned to the F-15 aircraft in 1979. The squadron plans and executes an annual flying hour program of 5,200 sorties to train and maintain the combat readiness of 32 pilots and 300 maintenance personnel for operational taskings in the world's most sophisticated air superiority aircraft. The squadron has more than 320 active-duty and civilian personnel and 27 F-15C/D aircraft assigned.
The "Gorillas" maintain and manage $950 million in assets and has an annual budget of $11.5 million. Gaincorp have faithfully reproduced the lines of this aircraft, including opening canopy, moving rudders, and crew access ladder.
Designed to meet US Air Force requirements for an air superiority fighter to replace the F-4 Phantom, the F-15 Eagle first flew on July 27, 1972. Following reviews of proposals, the United States Air Force selected McDonnell Douglas's design in 1969 to meet the service's need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. Since entering service in 1976, it is among the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat, with the majority of the kills by the Israeli Air Force. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
