For 2016, Iceland Air transformed on of their Boeing 757-200s (registration number TF-FIU) into a spectacular celebration of the "Aurora Borealis" otherwise known as the "Northern Lights". Not only was the exterior of the airplane given this stunningly colorful paint scheme but the interior was outfitted with LED mood lighting throughout the entire passenger cabin. The airplane was named "Hekla Aurora" after one of Iceland's more famous volcanoes in an effort to promote Iceland as a tourist location, which just happens to be a perfect spot for viewing the Aurora Borealis in the night sky.
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. A total of 1050 aircraft were built before production ceased in 2004, however many airframes have since been retrofitted with drag-reducing blended winglets to help improve fuel economy. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
