Considered too lightly armored by many, the agile Cromwell was the fastest British tank of WWII. In 1943 the A27M model with the Meteor engine entered service and became part of the 22nd Armoured Brigade arsenal. In 1944–45 the Cromwell became the most numerous British tank and in many units replaced the Sherman. There were 341 Cromwell Mk. VI's produced and these were armed with a 95mm Howitzer and used for close support. These tanks along with others saw heavy action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Introduced in 1943, the British Cromwell Tank was designed by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company as a replacement for the Crusader. Not as well armed as the German Tiger or Panther, the Cromwell relied on its superior agility and speed, supplied by a powerful Meteor engine and Christie suspension. The boxy turret at the center of the Cromwell's hull held the main gun, which was complimented by two anti-infantry machine guns, one mounted in the turret and the other in the bow. More than 4,000 Cromwells were produced during WWII, including variants with 57mm guns, AA guns, 75mm guns and 95mm Howitzers. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:72 scale Cruiser tank is constructed with a blend of diecast metal and plastic, with plastic used to achieve maximum detail and a discreet internal weight added for a heavy feel. The 360 degree rotating plastic turret features simulated armor plates with large bosses and a pivoting metal cannon. The lower portion of the hull is constructed in diecast metal with the top in plastic, which allows for fine details such as panel hinges, equipment and tools and delicate shield guards over the front headlights. Variants in the series include the early Centaur models and later Cromwells with a variety of main cannon.
