In October 1939 because of its shortcomings during the invasion of Poland, the 1st Light Division was reorganized to become the 6th Panzer Division. In 1940 the 6th Panzer Division took part in the Battle of France and spent from May 1940 until July 1940 in that country. By June 14, 1940 Paris was about to fall so the French surrendered and on June 22, 1940 the French signed the terms of surrender. In July 1940 the 6th Panzer Division was transferred to East Prussia and took part in Operation Barbarossa.
Designed to fill a gap in the production of the Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, which were experiencing delays in development, the Panzer II or Panzerkampfwagen II was first tested in October of 1935. Larger than its predecessor, the Panzer I, the Panzer II was Germany's primary battle tank until the beginning of 1941 but was nevertheless fairly ineffective in combat. It was really better suited for use as a light reconnaissance tank, and is particularly important because of the role it played in the development of later more powerful Panzers. Panzer IIs were removed from the front lines in 1942. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:72 scale Panzer II is a small tank in this scale. The bottom portion of the hull is constructed in diecast metal with the top portion and turret in plastic, which allows for maximum details like panel hinges and simulated diamond-plate surfaces on the tracks' fenders. Battlefield and track repair equipment are both separately applied and integrated into the hull's casting. The 360 degree rotating turret has a pivoting co-axial mounted machine gun and cannon, and the leaf-spring suspension on each road wheel can be clearly seen through the vehicle's tracks.
