On May 1, 1992 McDonnell Douglas MD-11 MSN 48474 was delivered to Delta Air Lines as N803DE. On March 26, 2003 it was sold to World Airways and continued to fly as N803DE. In 1975 the Vietnam War ended creating thousands of orphans and World Airways charitably began an airlift using their DC-8 and it became known as Operation Babylift". In 2005 on the 30th anniversary World Airways painted N803DE in the retro scheme of 1975 and returned to Vietnam with some of the now grown up orphans to see their birth land.
Please note: Unlike other models in the Hobby Master Airliner Series, this model features diecast metal wings with a plastic fuselage containing a metal insert to add weight. The painting and markings are applied with the same precision as other models in the line however, so this model still looks perfectly at home in any diecast collection.
Designed as a wide-bodied passenger and freight transport, the MD11 was first flown on January 10th, 1990. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
