The merger of Pan American World Airways and the Grace Shipping Company created the Pan American-Grace Airways better known as Panagra. Panagra flew routes from the U.S. to South American destinations. NC14268 c/n 1301 was the first Douglas DC-2 for Pan American and was delivered on August 27, 1934. One month later it was transferred to Panagra with a fleet number P-28 and named "Santa Ana". On July 31, 1944 the aircraft was damaged beyond repair at Arajuno, Ecuador. In 1967 Panagra merged with Braniff International Airways.
Designed to meet a TWA requirement for a passenger aircraft comparable to the Boeing Model 247, the DC-2 was first flown in 1934. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
