Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star   4.25"   5"

Although only 45 were ever used by the United States during World War II, the P-80 Shooting Star's production total would eventually near 2,000 aircrafts by the end of the Korean War. Clocked at 594 mph (one of the fastest aircrafts in its day) and armed with six 12.7 mm machine guns, two 454 kg bombs and eight rockets, many of the single-seat fighter bombers ended their days as unmanned target drones. The P-80 was the first jet fighter produced by Lockheed.

Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star

Designed as the first operational jet fighter for the USAAF, the P80 was first flown on January 8th, 1944 as the XP-80 prototype.
