Marine Helicopter Transport Squadron 263 (HMR-263) was activated at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina on June 16th, 1952, flying the Sikorsky HRS-1 Chickasaw. The squadron upgraded to the HUS-1 Sea Horse and deployed to Vietnam in 1965, later re-deploying in 1969 with the CH-46 Sea Knight. It continued to operate variants of the CH-46 until standing down in June 2005. The squadron was re-activated on March 3rd, 2006 as Marine Medium Tiltroter Squadron 263 (VMM-263) becoming the first operational squadron to fly the MV-22 Opsrey. VMM-263 deployed to Iraq in September 2007 with ten MV-22s aboard the USS Wasp Amphibious Assault Ship marking the first combat deployment of the Osprey to the Middle East.

Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey

Designed to meet a US military need for a VTOL aircraft that could carry combat troops, the V-22 Osprey was first flown on March 19, 1989. This multi-mission aircraft has an instantly recognizable appearance, and has been steeped in controversy almost since its inception. With its tiltrotor design, the Osprey can perform the same tasks as a conventional helicopter, but it has the speed and range of a turboprop aircraft. Several catastrophic crashes early in its service led the media to decry it as overpriced and unsafe, but the military disagreed and the aircraft has remained in service, successfully completing combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Forces of Valor's 1:72 scale V-22 Osprey is surprisingly large in this scale. The model is constructed with a large amount of plastic to accurately replicate features such as thin panel lines, fine wing fences and vortex generators on the top surface of the wing. The rotating engine nacelles can be swept for vertical, slow flight or fully forward flight. Both rear cargo bay doors open to reveal an interior that is rich in details. Bench seats span each side of the cargo bay with simulated equipment and wire/hydraulic lines covering the interior walls. Additional features include configurable landing gear and crew figures up front.
