The 305th Air Mobility Wing (305 AMW) is a United States Air Force strategic airlift and air refueling wing under the operational control of the Air Mobility Command (AMC) and is a tenant unit at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) in central New Jersey. The 305th AMW extends America's global reach by generating, mobilizing and deploying C-17 Globemaster III and KC-10 Extender aircraft to conduct strategic airlift and air refueling missions. In addtion to aircraft and aircrew generation, the 305th AMW controls one of the Air Force's busiest aerial ports, and the air operations at both McGuire and Lakehurst Fields. The Wing's motto is "Can Do," a description formulated in World War II when its predecessor unit, the 305th Bombardment Group, earned its reputation as courageous, innovative warriors. The legendary 305th Bomb Group was first commanded by then-Colonel Curtis E. LeMay. Notably, the 305th is the only Air Force unit with two Congressional Medal of Honor recipients in its history (Lts William Lawley & Edward Michael who earned them on separate B-17 missions during WWII).
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed by McDonnell Douglas as a military transport aircraft, the C-17 Globemaster III was first flown on September 15, 1991. This enormous aircraft is used for strategic airlift of cargo and troops, and is capable of rapidly deploying and sustaining combat troops in potential battle areas. Among its many additional uses are medical evacuation, airdrop and tactical airlift. Powered by four reversible turbofan engines, the C-17 requires a crew of just three (a pilot, copilot and loadmaster). Its Maximum payload is 170,900 pounds and it is capable of carrying and dropping 102 paratroopers and their equipment. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Gemini's 1:400 scale C-17 is constructed almost entirely from diecast metal with only the smallest amount of plastic used. This model's solidly constructed seamless wide-body fuselage features a wonderfully sculpted nose with pad-printed windows and doors that do not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. Both cargo door bay doors articulate at the rear of the model for quick and easy ground display with the pad-printed loading ramp lowered. The solid metal wings feature razor thin winglets that are integrated into the wing casting along with beautifully detailed turbo fan engines with the characteristic aerodynamic strakes atop the engine nacelles.
