Douglas DC-8-33, serial number 45584, entered service with Air Afrique as TU-TCD. The aircraft joined the multinational African carrier's fleet during the early jet age and operated international routes linking West and Central Africa with destinations in Europe and the Middle East. Configured with multiple passenger classes, the DC-8 provided modern long range jet service and significantly reduced travel times compared with piston-powered aircraft. Powered by Pratt & Whitney JT4A turbojet engines, the aircraft offered dependable performance on intercontinental routes. TU-TCD played an important role in Air Afrique's expanding international network during the 1960s.
Designed to compete with the Boeing 707, the DC-8 was first flown on May 30th, 1958. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
