Boeing 720-022, registered N304AS, was originally delivered to United Airlines as N7217U in February 1961 before being sold to Alaska Airlines in March 1974 and re-registered. Alaska operated a small fleet of four Boeing 720s, including N304AS, acquired mainly from Pacific Western Airlines and United for interim capacity during the mid-1970s, before trading the aircraft in for a Boeing 727 in November 1975. The airframe subsequently passed through several other operators and eventually flew for Dominican carrier Hispaniola as HI-401 before being scrapped at Puerto Plata.
Designed as the first American turbine-engined airliner, the 707 was first flown on July 15th, 1954.
