Boeing 720-022, registered N7203U, flew for United Airlines as part of the carrier's original fleet of Boeing 720s, the shortened, lighter derivative of the 707 that entered service with United on July 5, 1960, making United the type's launch customer. United operated the 720 for domestic routes requiring less range and capacity than its larger 707s, and the airline's fleet, including N7203U, was gradually retired around the turn of the decade as United declined to convert its 720s to the more advanced 720B standard, unlike some other operators.

Boeing 720

Designed as the first American turbine-engined airliner, the 707 was first flown on July 15th, 1954. The aicraft was designed from the start as a commercial airliner and military transport/refuelling platform and various models rolled off the production lines for 25 years.
