Boeing 767-2B1, manufacturer serial number 24716, was registered as XA-RVZ with Aeromexico, the Mexican flag carrier, having first flown in March 1990 and previously operated as CC-CEX for both LAN Chile and Royal Brunei Airlines before Aeromexico took delivery in December 1991. The aircraft supported Aeromexico's long-haul international network connecting Mexico City to destinations across North America and Europe, later returning briefly to LAN Chile as CC-CDH before rejoining Aeromexico in 1996. It was eventually retired from Aeromexico service, leased through Ansett Worldwide as N716AN, and ultimately flew for Macau's Viva Macau as B-MAV before the aircraft's final retirement, closing out a career that spanned four airlines and three registrations across more than two decades.

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
