Douglas DC-6, was registered as PP-YSL with REAL (Redes Estaduais Aereas Ltda), a Brazilian airline operating during the mid-20th century. REAL supported domestic Brazilian routes with piston-engine aircraft during a period of rapid growth in Brazilian commercial aviation, connecting the country's vast interior to its coastal population centers at a time when road and rail infrastructure remained limited across much of the nation. The carrier's 1961 absorption into VARIG came as part of a broader government-directed consolidation of Brazilian airlines intended to rationalize the country's fragmented aviation sector, contributing to VARIG's subsequent emergence as Brazil's dominant flag carrier for the following four decades.
