Vickers Viscount 814, manufacturer serial number 370, was registered as 4X-AVA with Arkia Israeli Airlines (originally Israel Inland Airlines, founded 1949) as one of nine Viscounts the carrier operated connecting Tel Aviv to Eilat and other domestic Israeli destinations. Arkia, now Israel's second-largest carrier, progressed from the DH.89 through the DC-3, Viscount, and Handley Page Herald before reaching its current Airbus and Embraer fleet, with 4X-AVA's sister ship, ex-G-APNE 4X-AVE, having previously flown for British United Airways, BOAC, Central African Airways, Alia, British Midland, and Ghana Airways. Several surviving Arkia Viscounts, including 4X-AVE, were eventually preserved decades later by the aviation salvage and art company MotoArt, which recovered the airframes from long-term desert storage in Tucson, Arizona, for restoration and display.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

Vickers Viscount

Designed as a medium-range pressurized turboprop aircraft, the Vickers Viscount first flew on July 16, 1948. As the world's first turboprop airliner, the Viscount filled a need for passenger transport on less popular routes. The early 630 design could carry 32 passengers, but it was ultimately rejected because of high per-passenger costs that made it impractical for commercial purposes. The redesigned 700 could carry up to 48 passengers, and the later Type 800 "Super Viscount" added an extra 23 passengers for a total of 71. The Viscount remained in airline service until 1985, when it became primarily a charter service aircraft.
