Airbus A321-271NX, was registered as A9C-NB with Gulf Air, the Bahraini flag carrier; individual manufacturer serial numbers for current-production A321neo deliveries are assigned sequentially from Airbus's Hamburg and Toulouse lines but not consistently published for each tail in general reference sources. As part of Gulf Air's modernizing narrowbody fleet, A9C-NB supports regional Middle Eastern routes from Bahrain International Airport, reflecting the carrier's ongoing transition to the more fuel-efficient A321neo as Gulf Air, jointly owned by the government of Bahrain, traces its roots back to 1950. Once jointly owned by Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Oman, and Qatar and serving as the de facto flag carrier for the entire Gulf region, Gulf Air narrowed to sole Bahraini ownership by the early 2000s as its former partner states launched their own increasingly prominent national airlines.
