McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32   3.5"   2.75"

McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32, was registered as PH-MAX with Martinair, the Dutch charter and cargo carrier, though the manufacturer serial number for this specific airframe is not confirmed in available public records. PH-MAX supported Martinair's European charter and scheduled short-haul operations from the Netherlands, complementing sister carrier KLM's broader Dutch aviation presence, during the carrier's decades of service before later fleet consolidation and an increased focus on dedicated cargo operations. Martinair, founded in 1958 by Martin Schroder, built a diverse business spanning passenger charter flights, scheduled services, and freight operations, eventually becoming a wholly owned KLM subsidiary and, in its final years of passenger operations, concentrating almost entirely on dedicated cargo flying before ceasing passenger service altogether in 2011.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32

Designed as a short-range twin-jet transport, the DC-9 was first flown on February 25th, 1965. Since shorter routes frequently required operation from small airports, the design focused on short-field performance. The most significant decision was to move the engines from under the wings to the tail, enabling the use of full-span flaps, reducing the possibility of foreign-object ingestion and lowering ground clearance for easier servicing at small terminals. The DC-9 spawned many variants leading to the MD-80, MD-90 and Boeing 717. In total, almost 2,500 aircraft were built over a period of more than 40 years.
