Boeing 707, was registered as N762TW with Air Tanzania, the East African flag carrier, likely acquired secondhand from Trans World Airlines given the "TW"-suggestive registration pattern common among former TWA aircraft. Air Tanzania's early long-haul fleet relied on secondhand Western-built widebody-adjacent aircraft like the 707 to establish international connections from Dar es Salaam during the 1970s and 1980s, a period when many African flag carriers built their fleets around retired aircraft from established American and European operators as newly independent nations worked to establish national aviation capability.
