Vickers Viscount 700, was registered as CF-GXK, associated with the Canadian government, likely supporting VIP or official transport duties for federal agencies during the 1950s and 1960s. Canadian government use of Viscounts for official transport reflected the type's reputation for reliability and passenger comfort during an era when few dedicated VIP aircraft existed, with the turboprop's pressurized cabin and smooth ride making it a natural choice for ministerial and official travel across Canada's vast geography, connecting Ottawa to provincial capitals and other government destinations across the country's enormous expanse.
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed as a medium-range pressurized turboprop aircraft, the Vickers Viscount first flew on July 16, 1948. As the world's first turboprop airliner, the Viscount filled a need for passenger transport on less popular routes. The early 630 design could carry 32 passengers, but it was ultimately rejected because of high per-passenger costs that made it impractical for commercial purposes. The redesigned 700 could carry up to 48 passengers, and the later Type 800 "Super Viscount" added an extra 23 passengers for a total of 71. The Viscount remained in airline service until 1985, when it became primarily a charter service aircraft. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
