Airbus A310-304, registered C-GRYV, flew for Canada 3000, the Canadian leisure and charter carrier, as part of the airline's widebody fleet supporting long-haul charter routes connecting Canada to European and Caribbean vacation destinations. Canada 3000 grew to become Canada's second-largest airline by the early 2000s before the combined shocks of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and a subsequent fuel price spike forced the carrier into bankruptcy and liquidation in November 2001, marking one of the largest and most sudden airline failures in Canadian aviation history and stranding thousands of passengers.
