Airbus A320-231, registered VT-ADW, flew for Air Deccan, the pioneering Indian low-cost carrier founded by Captain G.R. Gopinath in 2003, credited with transforming Indian domestic aviation by making air travel affordable for millions of middle-class Indians for the first time. Air Deccan's ultra-low fares and no-frills model directly inspired the low-cost revolution that reshaped Indian aviation, though the airline itself was acquired by Kingfisher Airlines in 2007 and its brand was eventually discontinued, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the low-cost carriers that now dominate India's domestic aviation market.
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
