Airbus A320-214, registered N853VA, flew for Virgin America before the airline's 2018 merger into Alaska Airlines, after which the aircraft transitioned into Alaska's fleet wearing the combined carrier's livery. Virgin America had built a distinctive brand around mood lighting, in-seat entertainment, and premium economy seating that won a loyal following among West Coast travelers, though Alaska Airlines ultimately phased out its inherited Airbus fleet in favor of an all-Boeing 737 strategy, with N853VA representing this transitional period in Alaska's post-merger fleet consolidation during the early 2020s.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

Airbus A320

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service.
