McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32, registered OE-LDA, flew for Austrian Airlines as part of the flag carrier's fleet of DC-9s supporting domestic Austrian and short-haul European routes from Vienna during the 1970s and 1980s. Austrian Airlines relied on the DC-9 as a core narrowbody type before the carrier's transition toward Airbus and Fokker aircraft in later decades, with OE-LDA supporting the airline's role connecting Vienna to destinations across Central and Western Europe during a formative period for Austrian civil aviation following the airline's 1957 founding.
