McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32, registered OE-LDE, flew for Austrian Airlines as part of the flag carrier's fleet of DC-9s supporting domestic Austrian and short-haul European routes from Vienna during the 1970s and 1980s, alongside sister aircraft OE-LDA. Austrian Airlines relied on the DC-9 as a core narrowbody type before the carrier's transition toward Airbus and Fokker aircraft in later decades, supporting the airline's role connecting Vienna to destinations across Central and Western Europe during Austrian aviation's postwar development.
