Boeing 767-2Q4, registered PT-TAB, flew for TransBrasil as part of the airline's original trio of Boeing 767-200s, painted with an orange tail per the carrier's tradition of assigning each aircraft an individual color alongside its rainbow-themed livery. TransBrasil, founded in 1955 by entrepreneur Omar Fontana, built a colorful reputation across Brazilian aviation before financial difficulties led to the airline's December 2001 collapse, after which PT-TAB remained abandoned alongside sister aircraft PT-TAA at Brasilia Airport for 21 years until both were finally removed in February 2023.

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
