Boeing 727-30, registered D-ABIA, flew for Lufthansa as part of the German flag carrier's early fleet of 727 trijets supporting domestic and short-haul European routes from Frankfurt and other German hubs during the 1960s and 1970s. Lufthansa was among the significant early European operators of the 727, using the type to modernize its short and medium-haul network before the airline's later transition toward Airbus and Boeing 737 aircraft for its European operations in subsequent decades.
