McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30, construction number 46642, was delivered to LAP (Lineas Aereas Paraguayas) as N602DC in 1973. The aircraft was used on international and regional routes throughout Latin America, connecting major cities such as Lima, Bogota, and Santiago. N602DC featured a three-class cabin configuration and represented a modern widebody option for LAP, offering increased passenger capacity and range compared to older aircraft. The DC-10-30 remained in LAP service for several years before being sold to secondary operators. Its operation helped modernize the airline's fleet and expand its network during the 1970s and early 1980s, marking a key step in LAP's development.
