Airbus A300, registered JA8464, flew for Japan Air System (JAS), a Japanese domestic carrier that operated a substantial A300 fleet supporting dense domestic Japanese routes before JAS merged with Japan Airlines in 2004 to form the JAL Group. JAS had been one of Japan's three major domestic airlines alongside JAL and ANA, and its widebody A300 fleet supported high-capacity trunk routes connecting Tokyo to other major Japanese cities before the carrier's absorption into the larger JAL organization.
