Boeing 727-21(F), manufacturer serial number 19259, registered N357QS, was delivered new to Pan American World Airways in May 1967 and flew for the carrier until 1983, when it joined ATASCO Northeastern before being damaged in a nosewheel-up landing at Miami in October 1983. Repaired and converted to freighter configuration, the aircraft joined Emery Worldwide Airlines' cargo fleet in January 1985, supporting the carrier's overnight freight network from its Dayton, Ohio hub until being withdrawn from use and scrapped in 2001, the same year Emery's parent company ceased the airline's operations following a fatal 2000 crash and subsequent FAA safety violations.
