Boeing 727-271, construction number 20959, was delivered to CP Air as C-GCPA in the early 1970s as part of the airline's modernization of its domestic and transcontinental fleet. The aircraft operated services across Canada and on select international routes, linking cities such as Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal. C-GCPA featured CP Air's distinctive orange livery and a two class cabin layout typical of the era. The 727-200 provided strong performance from shorter runways and high reliability in varied weather conditions. Following the merger that created Canadian Airlines International in 1987, C-GCPA was absorbed into the new fleet and later retired as newer aircraft types replaced the 727.
