Boeing 727-227, construction number 21061, was delivered to National Airlines as N4733 in the early 1970s during the carrier's expansion of its jet fleet. The aircraft operated domestic trunk routes within the United States as well as services to the Caribbean and Latin America, supporting National's strong presence in leisure markets. N4733 wore the airline's distinctive sunburst livery and was configured with a two class cabin suited to high density operations. The 727-200's performance and reliability made it ideal for National's network. Following National Airlines' acquisition by Pan Am in 1980, N4733 transferred into the Pan Am fleet and continued service before being retired as newer aircraft entered operation.
