Douglas DC-8-61, serial number 45972, entered service with American International Airways as N24UA. The aircraft operated as a cargo transport aircraft on domestic and international freight routes. Converted from passenger service, the DC-8-61 featured a large cargo door and reinforced floor for palletized freight. Powered by Pratt and Whitney JT3D engines, the aircraft provided dependable long distance cargo capability. N24UA supported American International Airways' operations as part of the cargo airline sector's reliance on converted jetliners.
