Boeing 707-436, registered G-APFN, was among the Intercontinental 707s ordered by the British Overseas Airways Corporation in 1956 and was delivered to BOAC on November 16, 1960. The 707-436 was a stretched 707-120 fitted with Rolls-Royce Conway turbofans instead of Pratt and Whitney engines, and British authorities initially refused to certify it over low-speed handling concerns until Boeing raised the vertical fin by 40 inches and added a ventral fin, changes later made standard across the 707 line. BOAC's 707-436 fleet became part of British Airways when BOAC and BEA merged in 1974.
