Boeing 727-290, serial number 21716, entered service with Frontier Airlines as N1PC. The aircraft joined Frontier's fleet of Boeing 727-200 Advanced aircraft and operated domestic routes throughout the western and central United States. Configured with first class and economy seating, the aircraft provided increased passenger capacity and improved operating efficiency compared with earlier variants. Powered by three Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines, N1PC offered reliable performance and became one of the airline's most recognizable aircraft through its distinctive registration.
